Completed Projects

The Land Stewardship Committee is continually developing and enhancing the trail system on Upton's conservation areas and other town-owned open space parcels.

Recently Completed Trail Projects

  • A new trail on the west side of Whitney Conservation Area connects to the Warren Brook Watershed Conservation Area (PDF). 
  • Re-route two trails on the Warren Brook Watershed Conservation Area (PDF) away from wet and damaged trails. 
  • Trails have been improved and signs placed on the east side of Whitney Conservation Area and Sweetwilliam Farm easement. These trails (PDF) are marked with orange blazes and are accessible from North Street and Upton State Forest.
  • Invasive control and trial improvements at the former Stefans Farm.

Girl Scout Gold Award Projects

2015 Brianna Croteau of Milford Troop 30147 - Constructed a kiosk at the Peppercorn Hill Conservation Area trailhead on Crocket Road.

Girl Scout Silver Award Projects

2013 Olivia Desmond, Sarah Hetu and Rebecca Pfeiffer of Upton Troop 30203 - Painting and installation of trail signs on the Whitney and Richard and Naomi Howarth Conservation Areas.

Boy Scout Eagle Award Projects

  • 2018 Nicholas Herd - Installed boardwalk and trail connection at Stefans Farm (JPG).
  • 2018 Chad Bucella - Installed two kiosks (JPG) at trailheads accessing the Whitney Conservation Area (JPG).
  • 2017 Lucas Nickelson of Upton Troop 132 - Installed two kiosks, one at Warren Brook Watershed Conservation Area (JPG) and one at Eleanor T. Howarth Glen Conservation Area (JPG).
  • 2017 Doug Cook of Upton Troop 132 - Installed two kiosks, one at Oak Knoll Lane and one at Taft Street trailhead.
  • 2017 Gillieson Hobart of Milford Troop 4 - Constructed a boardwalk over a stream at Peppercorn Hill Conservation Area.
  • 2015 Brian Spiegelman of Milford Troop 4 - Installed trail markers on the Walleston Trail, Peppercorn Hill Conservation Area.
  • 2014 Tom Coley of Upton Troop 132 - Tom Coley constructed 4 raised beds and a compost area at the Upton Community Garden.
  • 2014 Ashby Hobart of Milford Troop 4 - Constructed a bridge over an intermittent stream at the base of Peppercorn Hill.
  • 2013 Ryan Floodstrom of Upton Troop 132 - Constructed a bridge over an intermittent stream at Stefans Farm.
  • 2012 Christian Dumas of Upton Troop 132 - Constructed a bridge over a stream on the Sweetwilliam Farm/Whitney Conservation Area trail.
  • 2012 Nolan Hobart of Milford Troop 4 - Constructed a 16' replacement bridge over the Mill River near Peppercorn Hill.
  • 2010 Anthony Ward of Upton Troop 132 - Constructed a 72' wetland crossing at the Warren Brook Watershed Conservation Area.
  • 2010 Jefferson Gruber of Upton Troop 132 - Part 1 of a 100' bridge over Warren Brook at the Eleanor T. Howarth Conservation Area.
  • 2010 Patrick Nigro of Upton Troop 132 - Part 2 of a 100' bridge over Warren Brook at the Eleanor T. Howarth Conservation Area.
  • 2009 Erik Rapp of Upton Troop 132 - Constructed a 45' bridge at the Peppercorn Hill Conservation Area.
  • 2007 Patrick Bedard of Milford Troop 4 - Constructed a 42' bridge, improved trails and stocked map box at the Peppercorn Hill Conservation Area.
  • 2006 Benjamin Swartout of Mendon Troop 1 - Constructed a 36' bridge at the Peppercorn Hill Conservation Area.
  • 1991 Scott Van Raalten of Hopkinton Troop 1 - Constructed a bridge and trailhead sign at the Peppercorn Hill Conservation Area.
