Appointments

The Select Board is currently accepting volunteer applications from residents interested in serving on Town Boards and Committees. Please click here to see current openings.

Residents may apply to by submitting an Application for Volunteer Services, and outlining their qualifications. Resumes are encouraged and applications should be forwarded to the Select Board's office.

Appointments are made in public session. New applicants will be interviewed based on qualifications and the responsibilities of the committee.

For committees requiring significant time and service to become knowledgeable and useful, present members will be given every consideration for reappointment. At least one month prior to appointments, the Select Board’s office will contact current committee members to determine their interest in reappointment. Incumbents who wish to be reappointed must indicate so in writing. The Select Board will consider reappointments in public session, and members in good standing may be reappointed at the discretion of the Select Board.

 Individuals invited to serve on Town appointed boards, committees and commissions should:

    • Demonstrate competence, sound judgment, and goodwill

    • Represent both new and longtime residents

    • Commit to the welfare of Upton

    • Consider short and long-term impacts of decisions

    • Dedicate time to fulfill committee responsibilities  Experience is preferred but not required.

Experience is desirable but not required. The Select Board encourages people who have not previously come forward to express their interests.

Appointments typically end on June 30 unless otherwise specified. Vacant seats are filled for the remainder of the term. All volunteers must complete an on-line training in accordance with Conflict of Interest Law, (Massachusetts General Law Chapter 268A).
